Shop Talk for July

The Scopes ‘monkey’ trial ran its course in the first two weeks of July, 1925, in Dayton, Tennessee, and it will be the focus of this July’s Shop Talk at Old Professor’s Bookshop. Our speaker, Howard Torrey, has deeply studied this momentous event and lectured on it at the Belfast Senior College. He traces the origin of the anti-evolution phenomenon in the U.S. back to the Civil War and follows it up to today’s ‘Intelligent Design’ movement. It is also relevant to OPB, which has a large section on Darwin, evolution, and their conflict with religion.
