From July 10 to July 21, 1925, the Scopes “Monkey” trial took place in Dayton Tennessee, pitting Clarence Darrow, defending John Scopes, against William Jennings Bryan for the State. John Scopes was accused of teaching the theory of evolution in his biology class, which the State of Tennessee had made a criminal offence. The event is interesting enough to feature here, especially because so much has been written on it.
